co-organizer Warren Spieker

West Coast Sevens originated in 2010 when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that sevens rugby would be included in the 2016 Olympics. We saw the need to build top-class competitions at the Collegiate level to support our National Team - from player and coaching development to promotion and increasing participation. We strive to pay it forward from the many benefits we received as former rugby players.

After a brief hiatus following COVID, the West Coast Sevens Invitational returned in 2024 with tournament stops at Claremont College and the Olympic Training Center on the USA Eagles training pitch.

Our Mission

Our goal is to provide good playing venues and competition for collegiate and high school sevens rugby.  Quality video coverage offers exposure to a broad spectator base and allows USA Eagles coaches to scout for future national team players (see past examples).

West Coast Sevens Invitational tournaments are sanctioned by USA Rugby.  Any university team in good standing is welcome.
