Our Story
West Coast Sevens originated in 2010 when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that sevens rugby would be included in the 2016 Olympics. Andy Doukas saw the need to build top-class competitions at the Collegiate level to support our National Team - from player and coaching development to promotion and increasing participation. His initiative led to West Coast Sevens.
After a brief hiatus following COVID, the West Coast Sevens Invitational returned in 2024 with tournament stops at Claremont College and the Olympic Training Center on the USA Eagles training pitch. Subsequent stops have been at Dignity Health Sports Park, Stanford University’s Steuber Rugby Stadium, and Oceanside Sports Park. Since then, multiple Olympic, MLR and international players have participated in the West Coast Sevens. Former UCLA players Lucas LaCamp and Ben Broselle were identified at a WC7 tournament before becoming USA National Team players with the Eagles.
West Coast Sevens has recently expanded to include high school teams. These combined tournaments allow USA Eagles national team coaches and college coaches to identify and recruit up and coming players to help grow the game of rugby in the United States.
Our Mission
Our goal is to provide fun venues, grass fields, and high-quality competition for collegiate and high school sevens rugby. The mix of collegiate and high school teams fosters recruiting possibilities for both and helps National Team coaches to identify players for future U18s, U20, and USA Falcons teams. Many West Coast Sevens participants have followed this pathway. West Coast Sevens aspires to grow the game of rugby for teams throughout the United States.
Quality video coverage from TVS provides exposure to a broad spectator base. The downloadable media also allows players to create social media and highlight film, so they can develop their rugby careers in college and beyond. West Coast Sevens works with USA National Team coaches to identify and recruit future national team players.

Hear it From the Rugby Community
It's so important and critical to everything we are building at USA Rugby 7's. Being able to see the up and coming talent from high school and collegiate players.
Zach Test
USA Men's 7's Head Coach

This is a great opportunity for young players, not just about the talent, but the foundation building here for the next genreration. I am all about making the game grow, and this event allows that opportunity.
